This is an introductory meditation technique known as Kaya Sthairyam. This will be the first lesson of a two-part series for Kaya Sthairyam. The second practice will follow the same sequence; however this practice is needed before proceeding to the second lesson. The practice of Kaya Sthairyam is a technique designed to help develop concentration on the steadiness and calmness of the body. It word Kaya Sthairyam can be translated as “body steadiness” Sanskrit to English. It is believed in yoga that when the body is steady, the mind may also be steady and still. Kaya Sthairyam is commonly used both in meditation practices as well as pranayama practices. Therefore, a strong practice of Kaya Sthairyam will be beneficial in practicing the more advanced techniques of yoga. Usually, with any meditation practice, we will begin with 5 to 10 minutes of Kaya Sthairyam before proceeding on to the meditation. Hence, a strong foundation in this practice is needed.
